Dan and Glen are excited to share with you how you can move from pain to power.
Paralyzing fear that stops you from reaching your goals causes a lot of pain in life. But the people who are able to take action despite their fears gain power and self confidence.
In this post, we want to present a simple tool to help overcome fear. It’s credited to Susan Jeffers from her book “Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway”, and it’s called the “Pain-to-Power” chart:
Pain……………. >………….>…………Power
Your goal should be to move from pain (helplessness, depression, paralysis) to power (choice, energy, and self-confidence) in every area of life. Here are some steps to help you use this chart:
1. Create a Pain-to-Power chart for each important area of life where you’re experiencing fear Place the chart in a prominent position.
2. Place a pin (or mark) on the chart where you think you lie in the continuum. Most people fall somewhere in the middle, but in certain areas of your life (like your health), you may lie far to the left or right.
3. Each day, look at the chart and ask yourself “Do I see myself at the same place or have I moved?” Move the pin accordingly. The pin will move to the right as you begin taking action doing the things you’re afraid of.
4. Make sure you keep the Pain-to-Power chart FUN. Don’t beat yourself over the head with it – just enjoy the process of growing as you learn to take action in the face of your fears.
This tool can help you see where fear is stopping you from taking action. Always ask yourself: “Is doing nothing keeping me in a place of pain? If it is – you’ll be aware of what you need to do.
Your goal is to keep moving from the left side of the chart (pain) toward the right side of the chart (power).
Now you may wonder if using such a tool is necessary. The answer is YES! In the beginning, you need every trick available to become a proactive person and overcome fear.
Just have fun with it and enjoy the process of becoming a more confident person and moving from pain to power.
To Your Power and Self-Confidence!
